Astronomy & Astrophysics Seminar

Abstract:

I will describe  the main result from my Msc thesis, where we show that most type 1 AGN are reddened by dust in the ISM of their host galaxy, using a novel correlation we find between the optical continuum slope and NaID absorption.

I will then present new results about AGN-driven winds and how they can transform major mergers, showing powerful starbursts (usually called ULIRGs), to quenched, red and dead, elliptical galaxies. This work is based on photoionization and dynamical modeling of new integral field spectroscopic observations.
