Astronomy & Astrophysics Seminar: A Machine Learning based search for Gravitational-Waves

Abstract:

LIGO and VIRGO have by now detected numerous events of compact object mergers via template matching to a library of models. Unmodeled "burst" searches have yet to detect any other source of gravitational waves. In this talk, I will describe our project to use machine learning to search for patterns in the LIGO strain data, with the purpose of increasing the sensitivity over existing search pipelines.
