Abstract:
Building fault tolerant quantum computers may take decades. Existing quantum devices contain of the order of 100 physical qubits.
They are sometimes denoted as “Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ)” devices in which qubits and quantum operations supported on NISQ devices are not error-corrected and, therefore, imperfect.
In this talk, we trace some of the history of computers, and we try and see where we currently stand and where we could go forward in the next decades.
