Abstract:
We consider a scenario in which a fraction of the DM in our galaxy is a two-component DM charged under a dark U(1) and with a mass hierarchy. The thermalization of the two species boosts the light DM to relativistic speeds, while the dark charge prevents it from leaving the galaxy. We study the consequences of this scenario for direct-detection experiments, assuming a kinetic mixing between the dark U(1) and the SM photon. We find current bounds and future projections on the light dark matter that extend to the the sub-MeV mass range, for milli-charges up to Q ≲ 10^-11.
