Abstract:
The presence of Chern-Simons terms in holographic QCD is required by global flavor anomalies. These Chern-Simons terms can induce a spatial instability at nonzero density, known as the Nakamura-Ooguri-Park instability. I show that this instability is universal in a large class of bottom-up models of QCD matched to lattice data, persisting at surprisingly high temperatures and low baryon number densities in the quark-gluon plasma phase. However, its extent is potentially sensitive to the strange quark mass, not yet fully incorporated in these models.
