Abstract:
I will discuss several observational evidence that teach us about the role of jets and engines in stripped envelope supernovae (SE-SNe), i.e., SNe of type IIb, Ib and Ic. First, I will show a surprising result that implies that in most (and possibly all) SE- SNe there is a long-lived (hours to days) central engine. Second, (if time will permit)I will show that the stellar explosion in SE-SNe cannot be driven by jets. This includes SNe that are associated with gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). This implies that in SNe that contain jets, there are two energy sources, one of narrowly collimated relativistic jets and the other less collimated energy injection, where the latter carries most of the explosion energy.
