Abstract:
Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN) feedback is one of the critical, yet poorly understood, processes in galaxy evolution. It is believed that the accreting black hole drives massive outflows that can reach galactic scales, destroy molecular clouds, and/or escape the host galaxy, thus having a significant impact on the evolution of their host galaxy. However, observing this feedback in action has proven to be very challenging. In this talk, I will present an analysis of the stellar, AGN, and gas properties in the largest sample of active galaxies to date. By combining large public datasets with new dedicated observations from XMM-Newton, VLT, Keck, ALMA, and IRAM, we assess the role of AGN feedback in different galaxy evolutionary stages. Our results challenge the current theoretical paradigm, calling into question the relative importance of AGN feedback in the evolution of local massive galaxies.
