Abstract:

Non-Gaussian shapes of the displacement probability density function (PDF) have been unveiled in an impressive number of systems. Apart from "Brownian yet non-Gaussian diffusion", non-Gaussianity was also shown in viscoelastic systems.
These are described by dynamics driven by fractional Gaussian noise, in which the PDF is typically Gaussian. I will discuss different conceptual approaches for the description of such non-Gaussian statistics as well as present concrete physical
examples from soft and biological matter.
