Extreme Climate Change in Israel based on a new data set
Israel Saw Significant Rise in Temperature in Recent Decades, Study Shows
Recently, a new study on climate change was conducted by Yizhak Yosef, a PhD student at the Geophysics Department, under a joint supervision of Prof. Pinhas Alpert and Dr. Enric Aguilar (URV, Spain).
For the first time a new daily homogenized temperature and precipitation data set was generated for Israel (1950-2017). Results showed significant increasing temperature trend, ~0.5 oC/decade during 1988-2017. Increasing trends in the number of warm days and nights were found. Additionally, a reduction in the total precipitation amount along with a tendency towards a higher contribution from very wet days is much stronger for the last 30 years.
