The Abarbanel Prize
The Abarbanel Prize is awarded once every two years by the Israel Mathematical Union, in memory of mathematician Prof. Shalom Abarbanel of Tel Aviv University. The prize is funded by a foundation donated by his family.
The award is intended for young Israeli mathematicians (under the age of 49) working at higher education institutions in Israel, who specialize in applied mathematics.
The prize has been awarded since December 2018 at the Shalom Abarbanel Memorial Conference, held biennially at Tel Aviv University.
Nominations may be submitted by heads of faculties, departments, and schools of mathematics across Israel.
The recipient is selected by a three-member anonymous committee.
In 2022, the prize was awarded to Prof. Yoel Shkolnisky, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Applied Mathematics at Tel Aviv University.
