Celebrating the Remarkable Achievements of Lev Eppelbaum in Geophysics
Congratulations to Dr. Lev Eppelbaum for being elected as Foreign Member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences
Dr. Lev Eppelbaum, a Principal Research Associate at Tel Aviv University, was elected as a Foreign Member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences in May 2023. He holds an M.Sc. in Geophysics from Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry and a Ph.D. from the Institute of Geophysics of the Georgian Academy of Sciences and Moscow Mining Academy. Lev has made significant contributions in processing and interpreting potential geophysical fields, particularly in challenging environments with inclined magnetization, rugged terrain, and complex media.
His methodologies have been successfully applied to various fields such as magnetic, thermal, and gravity data processing, as well as VLF method, self-potential, induced polarization, piezoelectric, and resistivity fields. Lev's work has found applications in archaeology, environmental geophysics, geological-geophysical mapping, and the study of deep structures. Notably, he has authored the first maps of the Moho and Curie discontinuities of Israel, along with a paleomagnetic map of the Eastern Mediterranean.
His innovative methodologies, extensive publications, and groundbreaking research have left an indelible mark on the scientific community.
Moreover, Lev's expertise has been recognized through prestigious accolades such as the Christian Huygens Medal of the European Geosciences Union and the distinguished title of Honorary Professor of the Azerbaijan State University of Oil and Industry.
We celebrate Lev's unwavering commitment to advancing the field of geophysics and extend our heartfelt congratulations.
