Abstract:
I briefly discuss some historical aspects of HE physics: the strong interactions a.k.a. QCD which gives rise to light almost massless pions (Yukawa particles) and of the Electroweak "standard" model and the prediction /discovery of the Higgs boson. I will discuss the possibility that the Higgs is a "fundamental" rather than a composite particle like the pion and other mesons in QCD. Along the way I’ll have the opportunity to discuss some important related contributions of members of our HE department and few others including Vafa Witten Weingarten and Coleman.
