Geosciences Dept. Seminar: Using remote sensing technologies to monitor environmental health
Dr. Alexandra Chudnovsky, TAU
Abstract:
The key aspect of the talk will be devoted to monitoring air pollution from natural and anthropogenic sources, with the main goal- to render the results of immediate benefit to stakeholders and environment watchers. Using high-resolution satellite information on aerosols, I evaluate the contribution of local and regional pollution sources to the urban air quality: anthropogenic activities in and outside cities and natural sources such as desert dust.
I combine these data with that on spatial patterns of air temperatures, urban heat islands, and particulate matter concentrations within the city in order to generate a comprehensive view of the air pollution for public health purposes.
