Mechanics and dynamics of lipid bilayer membranes: extracting bending moduli from molecular dynamics simulations and modeling transport in the membrane plane
Abstract:
Continuum level models will be presented for understanding thermal fluctuations of membrane shape and the dynamics of membrane components (lipids, proteins, lipid domains, etc.) in the plane of the bilayer. These models will be used to motivate a practical strategy to extract the membrane bending modulus from fully atomistic molecular dynamics simulations and numerical methods for simulating lipid composition dynamics and the motion of membrane embedded proteins.
