"Wonder of Chemistry" program for High School Students

In order to encourage high school pupils to study chemistry and see it as a future high education subject and profession, the Tel-Aviv School of Chemistry has established a short program named "The Wonders of Chemistry".

This volunteering activity has already been running  for several years. Every week a class from a different high school visits the School of Chemistry and hears a scientific lecture, watches demonstrations of various experiments in chemistry and takes a tour of the School's facilities. The activity is oriented towards pupils who presently study science/chemistry/physics.

These visits (for classes of approximately 35 pupils) take place every Tuesday between 10:00 and 13:00 hours.

The visit's program includes:

  • A lecture adapted to the level of the pupils and connected with chemistry. Among the various subjects one can find magnetic imaging (MRI), lasers and spectroscopy, development of drugs against bacteria, computational chemistry, and so forth.

  • Demonstrations of experiments in chemistry including burning of matter, properties of metals, pH in solutions, vacuum, kinetics of reactions, state of matter, organic polymers and more.

  • A tour to two facilities such as the nanotechnology labs, the NMR/MRI lab, organic synthetic lab, energy storage (batteries) lab and others.

Coordination of visits is carried out during the months of September and October by the Secretariat of the School of Chemistry:
